Have you been in a situation when someone shows a level of kindness , that chokes you with gratitude , as you silently pat yourself on the back for having being blessed that way ?. I was looking out the window , watching a steady stream of cars going in all directions , constantly in the evening rush hour. It reminded me of how , innocently yet unconsciously we are all living a life that doesn't stop , simply going in our own ways , not bothering to stop for a second and reflect on our journey . It got me thinking , if I had been thankful to the people in my life, as and when they happen to do something good, out of love and friendship. It just triggered a domino of self reflective thoughts in me.
I remembered , when a colleague of mine, back in New Jersey , was standing behind me in the queue. It was lunch time and we were in all our mundane rounds to pat the tummy. I had grabbed a fancy coffee mug, a paper tub of nuts and salads , a chips packet and a snack bar for the evening. The moment, the third item was billed, I realized that I had bought more than I can chew, as the credit card I was given got over and I had to make a quick decision to drop something. This angel , standing behind me, swung into the picture, extended her loaded card and said "Hey you ! It's on me . You dare not put anything down. You grab everything you want" . I was magnetized , I looked into her eyes, as a gush of love sore through my veins, to break into a smile as I nodded and moved on, with all I wanted. I went and sat in my chair, as I watched her bill her goods and she went back to her place. Do you realize , how powerful it is , to experience good vibrations ? Two weeks later , I was listening to my favorite music , got into a psychic trance , as I reminisced the wonderful act of the lady , spurring happy tears down my cheeks , making me take a selfless focused vow, that as and when the universe blesses me, time to time , I should contribute to food donations and buy foods for the needy , whenever I deem it opportune. One must also realize that , the two characters involved in this incident, were from two religious faiths, but the fundamental operating power between us was LOVE , which is what all faiths, reinforce in many ways.
A similar incident happened , when I was at this budget store . I was going through the goods , bought some, as I was happy to find some products for the special people in my life . I was at the billing counter, and this boy looked at me and blurted the price. I was just new in town and It didn't occur to me, that there is Tax applied in every single transaction . I had brought just the cash I needed and the bill was a good 40 odd cents over my cash value. This boy, more or less my age, working there just for wages, wasted no time to say , "It's Ok ! , It's on us". I summoned the courage to just give the cash I had , even as the taxes were billed on the store and I was on my way out. I came back to the store many times, but never saw this boy again. What gives people this energy ? What makes people act GOOD ? Unless, they had a certain level of GOOD in them , how can this be possible ?
The other day , the luxurious hotel where I was staying , had a change in plans and the shuttle was not on time . The manager / front desk associate knew about my routine, as she bit her lip that the shuttle was not there and I had to leave for work. She made a quick call , sprung out , patted me on the shoulder and said "Come Out". I didn't notice her , but I stood calmly there , as I for one, am a Man who respects the flaws of the people around me. A few seconds later, a honk captures my attention , as I see this Lady on the car, signalling me to hop in. She left her job, brought her car to take me to work , just because my ride wasn't ready. I jumped in, as I was about to thank her, even as she sped me , with a big smile in her face. I made it clear, I felt honored and grateful to experience things like this.
I urge you, take a moment, think of the times, when someone did something out of the blue to make you happy , to save you from a situation , moments that made you smile and realize that indeed , Goodness exists in this world and it's not a bad place after all. Don't ever waste an opportunity to thank someone for what they did. When you convey your gratitude, be careful and conscious of their pride,as your act of thanks should not be misinterpreted as a business transaction , just to settle scores between the two of you. It's not about getting even. It's about acknowledging the presence of GOODNESS in that person which ipsofacto brings out the GOOD in you.
